We are accepting practicum students for January 2027.

Mindful Connections Therapy is a small North York practice offering warm, trauma-informed care to adults, teens, couples, and families. We have space for counselling and psychotherapy students starting in the winter 2027 term. This placement is fully virtual, so you can apply from anywhere in Ontario.

What the placement offers

A small caseload you are genuinely supported through, rather than a large one you are left alone with.

Direct client hours

Individual work with adults and teens over secure video, building toward the direct-contact hours your programme requires. Caseload is built up gradually as you find your footing.

Regular clinical supervision

Scheduled individual supervision with a qualified external supervisor, held remotely, plus informal consultation with the team between sessions.

How a small practice runs

Intake calls, case notes, treatment planning, and the practical side of ethical private practice. The parts of the work that rarely appear on a syllabus.

How supervision works

Supervised by a qualified external supervisor

Clinical supervision for this placement is provided by an external clinical supervisor engaged by the practice, chosen so that supervision meets the requirements of your programme and of your college. We share her name, credentials and registration details with you and with your placement coordinator during the application, and they are set out in the placement agreement your programme signs.

Melissa Huang, the practice founder, is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and is herself under clinical supervision. She does not act as clinical supervisor for students. She is closely involved in the placement day to day.

Who we are looking for

We would rather take one student we can properly support than several we cannot.

Currently enrolled in a counselling or psychotherapy graduate programme that leads toward CRPO registration, such as an MACP, MEd in counselling psychology, or equivalent.
Your programme requires a supervised clinical placement and will enter into a placement agreement with the practice.
Able to work from a private, quiet space with reliable internet, since all sessions are held over secure video. Days and hours are agreed with you and your programme.
Comfortable working with adults and teens 14+, and interested in trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming practice.
Able to hold confidentiality carefully and to ask for help early. We are far more interested in this than in polish.

Dates and how to apply

Placement starts: January 2027, aligned to your programme’s winter term.
Duration and hours: set by your programme’s requirements. Tell us what yours asks for and we will confirm whether we can meet it.
Positions available: a small number. We would rather take fewer students and supervise them properly.
Applications close: 31 October 2026. We review as they come in, so earlier is better if your programme allows it.
Location: fully remote. You can be based anywhere in Ontario; the practice itself is in North York, Toronto.

Common questions

Who supervises the placement? +

An external clinical supervisor engaged by the practice, so that supervision meets both your programme’s requirements and those of the relevant college. Melissa is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and is under supervision herself, so she does not supervise students.

What kind of clients would I see? +

Adults and teens 14 and older, seen over secure video, most often bringing anxiety, ADHD, low mood, trauma, and recovery after accidents or injury. Cases are matched to your stage of training, and your caseload is built up gradually rather than handed over at once.

Is the placement in person or virtual? +

Fully virtual. All client sessions and supervision are held over secure video, so you can complete the placement from anywhere in Ontario. There is no requirement to attend the North York office.

Do you take social work students? +

This intake is aimed at counselling and psychotherapy students working toward CRPO registration. If you are an MSW student and think the fit is right, write to us anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we can support the placement.

What is the practice like to work in? +

Small, warm, and fairly direct. Two clinicians and an administrator, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming in how we work, and no house style you are expected to imitate. Because the placement is remote, we make a point of regular check-ins so you are not left working alone.

Can I apply for a later term? +

Yes. We are recruiting for January 2027, but if your placement falls in a different term, send your details and we will let you know when we next have space.
